Horizon: Policy on Payment Implementing Assignment of Benefits Law:

Horizon has posted its payment policy implementing the assignment of benefits law. According to the website posting, Horizon will pay physicians directly on claims made under all plans covered by the assignment of benefits law that became effective on January 16, 2011. Horizon intends to monitor the direct payment approach and has reserved the right to issue joint payee checks (requiring the patient’s signature) depending on its payment experience.

Please note that Horizon’s policy indicates that it will pay directly for any claims received after January 16, 2011 to which the law applies.

Physicians and practice managers should review this important payment policy which designates plans covered by the law and those that a re not. Horizon notes that over half of its payments will continue to be made directly to the member/patients because they are in plans not covered by the law.
